Preschool Screening

Early Learning Center Preschool Screenings
Early identification of potential learning problems is the goal of the preschool screening program being conducted by the ELC. If potential problems are identified before a child enters school, appropriate steps can be taken to facilitate the child’s educational development. Various program options are available for students with needs.
ELC uses the DIAL - 4 (Developmental Indicators for the Assessment of
Learning). The DIAL-4 components are intended to help early –education
professionals identify children who are at risk of failing in academic settings. The test employs a stations approach whereby different children can be tested by different examiners at the same time in each of the performance areas (Motor, Concepts, and Language) within 1 hour to 1 hour and 30 minutes. A vision and hearing screening is also conducted. In addition, each parent will complete a Parent Questionnaire and be interviewed to allow for sharing of further information about their child. At the conclusion the results and recommendations are shared with the parent, as well as the possible next steps.
